Event: Peace Pole Pursuit

Location: All over the Greater Lansing area!  (see map/list of addresses)

Who: Anyone, any age, anyone interested in a fun challenge!

About: Walk, drive, or bike in pursuit of as many Greater Lansing peace poles as you are able.  Once you have found and photographed at least 10 peace poles with you in each photo and posted them on your Facebook page,  submit the form by clicking here. (For kids of age 10 and below, 5 poles is the minimum goal). For more details click here.

About: Inmates find peace while inside a Texas prison through a peace education program now used worldwide with amazing results. First viewed during PeaceQuest 2016 due to the friendship between Greater Lansing PeaceQuester Candice Wilmore and film director Cynthia Fitzpatrick. This film was released in August 2021 for online viewing.

About:  Faith, recognizing both Love as an imperative force and that all people are worthy of it, cannot abide racism. Michigan Representative Sarah Anthony will update us on the status of legislative and other efforts that impact racism (for better or for worse), and Michigan United Methodist Bishop David Bard will address these concerns through the lens of faith. Both will then dialog about steps we can take to move us forward. Participants may meet with the speakers in breakout rooms at the end of the event.

Nathan Moore has conducted research around the world on the regional impacts of climate change. He will discuss how climate change is affecting our weather, health and lives in the United States and other parts of the globe. About: Decorate your own 4″x4″x4′ or small tabletop Peace Pole; all materials provided. Waverly High School and Ovid-Elsie High School students from various nationalities will be on-hand for you to personalize your Peace Pole in different languages. This will be a laid back, interactive workshop where you can come and talk with students who are interested in changing the world for the better. There will be space available for you to paint your pole. We’ll provide some background and importance of Peace Poles. If you prefer, you can also pickup your complete kit and create your peace pole at home.

Event: Singing in the Dark Times: A Poetry Fundraiser for the Refugee Development Center
Location: University United Methodist Church, 1120 S. Harrison Rd., East Lansing, MI

About: Area artists are coming together to present “Singing in the Dark Times,” a program of music and poetry to raise funds for Lansing’s Refugee Development Center. “Refuge Lansing,” a photo exhibit of refugees who have made the Lansing Area their home, will be on display. Strict COVID protocols will be in place: vaccination cards and masks are required by all attendees. The event will take place in the UUMC Sanctuary, which has ample space for attendees to socially distance.
